A bespoke chuppah is one designed and built for a single wedding rather than hired from an existing range. We have been commissioned to build entirely original structures throughout that time - incorporating family textiles, matching a venue's architecture, or realising a form nobody has built before. The process begins with a conversation and typically needs nine to twelve months.
About the Bespoke Chuppah
Roughly one couple in ten arrives having looked at everything we hold and wanting something that is not in it. That is a good position to be in, and it is the part of the work we enjoy most.
A commission starts with a conversation, not a catalogue. We want to know the venue, the season, the light in the room, who your florist is, what textiles matter to your family, and – usually the most useful question – what you have seen elsewhere that you did not like. Constraints produce better designs than open briefs do.
From there we design, agree materials and finish, and build the structure specifically for your wedding. We have built around inherited textiles, matched frames to a venue’s own ironwork, incorporated a national flag into a canopy at Borehamwood Synagogue, and built forms that had no precedent in all our years of doing this.
We work directly with florists throughout. A bespoke chuppah that has not been designed around the floral plan is a structure the florist then has to fight, and the finished ceremony always shows it.

Bespoke Chuppah - your questions
A detailed conversation about your venue, season, florist and the textiles or ideas that matter to you; then a design; then agreement on materials, finish and dimensions; then we build it for your wedding and install it on the day. Every element is chosen rather than selected from a range.
It is quoted individually, because a simple variation on an existing frame and a wholly new structure in unusual materials are not comparable jobs. Tell us as much as you can about what you have in mind and we will give you a realistic figure early rather than at the end.
Yes, and it is often what makes the commission worth doing. Family textiles, an inherited tallit, fabric from a parent's wedding - we will build around any of it, with the care that heirloom material requires.
Nine to twelve months, and earlier if you can. A bespoke design needs time for the conversation, the drawings, material sourcing and the build, and rushing any of those shows in the finished piece.
Always, and we would ask to. A structure designed without reference to the floral plan is one the florist then has to work against. Put us in touch early and the finished chuppah will be better than either of us would have managed alone.
